The first is that this is speaking of the doctrine of the Judaizers reinserting the law as a means of obtaining justification before God. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. Galatians 5:6

Paul has used circumcision as the benchmark for his argument against pursuing deeds of the law. If a person was not circumcised, he was excluded from the covenant people.
